Due to my incapability to do anything significant with VOX in terms of designing my own shit on the blog and customizing it more, I've decided to whore another blog. My old one, that I kept when I was 17!!!
It's an old blog, I had 3 entries in it and that was it.
So I did an overhaul and hope you'll move with me!
It's a new week! So its a new start, come on sales!!
I have a huge two weeks of science ahead of me since my boss is gone so I am left with no guidance to get one thing done; get HIF-1alpha protein to show up on my western blots.
Urgh. I have my huge departmental talk on the 5th of December (same day as my trunk show) and I am dreading it because mostly, I don't buy the science theory that is behind this project that is given to me. What can I say really, I'm a lowly Research Associate. I guess I would be more convinced if experiments had the right controls and were done right and subsequent experiments were not done on the results of non repeated data. If I had my own way, I could rest the question once and for all. Everything is "assumption" in science until proven and scientists can always prove something indirectly and declare their assumption real. I think it's kicking yourself in the head because then you're basing your following experiments on what you'd like to happen and what may be a loose hypothesis. Then when nothing works and you tweaked it like a mofo and still couldn't get your hypothesis to work, you're laying in a puddle of self destruction.
Now, I have this whole science outlook as "I told you so" but not said out loud.
This morning, I put the findings on this Rust Endearment necklace I started last night:
I made it to the front page of Etsy tonight with my purple reign thanks to KisforCaligraphy's awesome treasury!!
Now come one sales, come on!!
Has it been a week since my last sale? No, not yet but boy it feels like an eternity! I think I've passed my "oh poor me, I want a sale!" stage and now I'm getting focused on my other outlets like my consignments, my NEW consignment and my December show down at the Pearl.
First and foremost, Thea has invited me to do a trunk show/open house in December! Yay!! I'm so excited, I'm still making pieces for it. Here are the post cards she gave me to hand out to family and friends:
Also to counterbalance my huge sadness of not having a sale for a few days, Olivera from Wholly crafts asked me if I was interested in a consignment relationship with her. Boy! How awesome because when I looked up her shop, it was fabulous! It is visually stimulating with all the colours and lovely hand made products, plus I adore the fact that all the items in her shop is locally sourced or hand made by artists around the U.S.A. I mean, thats so wonderful! She's so supportive of hand made items and supporting this revolution that she allows us to put a tag on our items and advertise our online shops! If you're in Columbus, Ohio, you'll HAVE to stop in and be mesmerized by her shop. I've seen her shop from numerous websites and flickr pages, so I'm really curious!
This weekend has been so beautiful weather wise that I think Portland has really outdone herself. It was also the first in a while that made me stop and realise how beautiful Autumn is. It is crisp. It is golden. It is sunny. I just love it. Looking at the Autumn colours make me want to see "America, the beautiful". I wonder if the song was written in the Autumn time.
Here is my weekend in pictures, lunch in Dundee, walk around at Al's garden and wearing my man made leather boots
If you could change your name, what would you change it to?
This one time, when my sister and I were around 8 or 9, we decided we had had enough with our boring names. Tiffany and Valerie. What the heck?! I remember writing my name and hating the way it looked. So we sat around by my mum's bed and took out the bible. (I don't know why we had a bible in the house, we are by no means, a religious family.) At the back of the bible, was all the biblical names in alphabetical order, male and female. I looked at my sister and made her promise that whatever names we blindly pinpoint, we have to take it and one day we'll legally make it ours. Ok? You're with me, no matter what, we have to change it. Ok?
Val went first, she closed her eyes and opened a random section and ran her fingers all over the page and I said, stop! Her finger stopped and that was her name right there. I don't remember what hers was but when I did it, mine was Grace.
Ew. Grace Pang. (No offense to anyone named Grace but I had a more grandeur name in mind.)
Suffice to say, we did not keep it.
This was a really bizarre dream I had the other night which instantly propelled me to think whoa that would look so cool as a random print or tshirt.
I dreamt I was in the lab as usual, spinning down some cells. (For non science-y people, this means spinning cells in a machine called the centrifuge which spins it at high speeds and it brings all the cells down to the bottom of the tube, seperating the cells from the liquid it was sitting in. The liquid is called the Supernatant.) After I spun the cells down, I noticed there were still stuff in the supernatant and I look closer. They were yellow NY taxis!!!!! They were driving around and around. WTF!??
Whoa.
Artificial purple has never looked so tasty or sounded so sexy:
Despite my two sales this week, I'm down in the dumps about not selling more. What a vicious thing, the Etsy High. When you get it, your expectation goes up! Oh expectations. I must remind myself that this is my hobby and getting paid is icing on the cake. Icing.
My buttons give me the inspirations and now that I'm nearing to no buttons, I'm running out of inspirations. Fortunately, I purchased more from fellow Etsy sellers. I can't wait till they get here!!
What first attracted you to the person you're currently dating?
His eyes and smile. Man, that sounds so CLICHE. Physically it was that, that and I walked in on him peeing and laughed. (I was horribly smashed you see)
